Leaves-in-the-Wind Cuff Bracelet
In this construction, the branches and leaves were pierced (cut with a saw) into one strip of silver. This strip, with the design, was then fused by soldering to a second strip of silver. The recessed spaces were oxidized (patinated or darkened) chemically and the silver polished, leaving a recessed image. The recessed image is called an intaglio and used in many of my pieces.
Leaves-in-the-Wind Bracelet in Brass
The price of silver is going through the roof! Jeweler’s brass is a great alternative material, which is alloyed to look like 14K gold. It tarnishes faster than gold, but is easy to bring to a shine with a polishing cloth (available at jewelry stores).
Leaves-in-the-Wind (with Red Berries)
The same Leaves-in-the-wind motif, but with flush-set synthetic rubies.
'Curves and Stones' Cuff Bracelet
This bracelet features purple-tinted Alexandrite stones and curved lines cut into the Argentium Sterling Silver. The stones are 4mm in diameter and the bracelet width is about 9mm.
Leaves and Berries, In This Case the Berries are Garnets
Garnets were used to reference red berries in this bracelet.
Leaves-in-the-Wind Bracelet, In Relief
In this bracelet, the leaves are in relief, that is, raised above the surface of the piece. The leaves and branches are constructed from brass, and the silver bracelet is oxidized black.
Wheat Stalks in Relief
The wheat is carved out of brass and fused to the sterling silver band. The background is oxidized (blackened) and the brass polished.
Stalks of Wheat Cuff Bracelet
The design was cut out of one sheet of sterling silver and then laminated (by soldering) to a backing sheet of silver. The recessed design (an intaglio) was darkened by oxidation and the surface polished to a matte finish.
Gold Hearts and Stalks of Wheat
A 50th Anniversary. Gold hearts, inlaid into silver, with stalks of wheat.
Stalks of Wheat with Inlaid Bird
The stalks of wheat are in intaglio and the bird is inlaid Shibuichi copper (a Japanese alloy of copper and silver).
'Oak Leaves' Cuff Bracelets
Like the Leaves in the Wind bracelets, these are intaglios featuring oak leaves. The leaves are cut into the top layer of silver with a jeweler’s saw, and fused onto a back layer, which is blackened with a sulphur-containing compound.
Maple Leaves in Relief
The leaves are cut out of brass, and soldered onto a silver band. The band is blackened and the brass leaves polished.
Marriage-of-Metal Bracelets
In Marriage-of -Metal, two metals of different color are fused (soldered) together into one sheet. This allows contrasting colors and an infinite number of designs. This is a very simple design, simply alternating strips of copper and silver, but the effect is eye-catching.
Inlaid Rope Bracelet
The bracelet is sterling silver with an inlay of copper circling around the bracelet. This is a Marriage-of-Metal, like the preceding bracelet.
Rope Bracelet
In this bracelet, the back is made of sterling silver and the surface is jeweler’s brass. The ‘rope’ is oxidized silver, below the surface of brass.
Turtles....or Tortoises in Relief
A bracelet for your favorite granddaughter!
Three Birds Cuff Bracelets
For a friend with three children!
Banded Cuff Bracelet
The bracelet is made of sterling silver. The recessed bands are oxidized black and the raised bands polished. This bracelet partners with hoop earrings of the same design.
